Bit of a non-resonant question for once:
What program do you use to write with? Any particular fonts or techniques that help get you in the writing zone? Do you edit as you write or write and then edit after you have a skeleton/base finished?
Ah, love me some writing questions!
Writing program
For my very early fandom life, I liked to use Wordpad (rather than proper Word) because it was very simple but still allowed basic formatting and didn't have Word's annoying "suggestions" that I always ignore.
Then I bought Scrivener, which appealed to me because it let you organize your writing into "folders" almost, while allowing you to still easily switch between separate bits of writing and view the work as a whole. I loved it because I'm always playing with concept work or alternate POVs, and it let me organize all the related bits around the main work. I still use Scrivener to organize my D&D games that I DM!
These days, I tend to use Google Docs for easy syncing. I like being able to write and read my work everywhere. I mostly write at my desk, but will reread and edit occasionally on my phone (at home or elsewhere) or on my laptop when I'm lounging in bed. One thing I used to do, in summer of all things, was take a nice long soak in the bath and reread Resonant before starting work on a new chapter. It's too long these days to do that, alas!
I don't love Google Docs itself, because I really do miss the organization Scrivener gave me. (Scrivener would be amazing for the Halloween prompts, honestly!) And the single doc that holds all of Resonant is starting to choke a bit on its size. But the convenience keeps it as my writing tool of choice for now.
There was one other piece of Scrivener-esque paid writing software I looked at a while back that sync'd its content in the cloud, but I remember not being super blown away by it and I've forgotten the name.
Getting into the zone
This is usually a matter of rereading the current chapter or the previous chapter to get my head in the right place, both in terms of tone and flow. Sometimes, if I'm feeling very fancy, I'll light a scented candle. But I'm a pretty basic person. It's usually just me deciding "okay, enough screwing around, let's do some writing" and then I write. (In the past, when I was strict about reaching 1K/day and was struggling with a particular section, I would give myself the "treat" every 100 words of a short break.)
I had a period where I only felt "in the zone" when the sun was still out, which makes things hard when you work a 9-5 job and have to take care of dinner/the dog after. Fortunately, that phase is over and I'm back to writing whenever. That phase was odd because I am more typically a "can't really get in the proper zone until midnight" person. I would say that most of Resonant was written between the hours of 10PM and 4AM.
The hardest things for me to write are new characters and new POVs, as those usually involve me refreshing myself on the body of work for that particular character (rewatching them in the show, and rereading their bits in F&B). Not applicable to OCs, usually, unless they're Essos-related characters, because those involve a lot of interpolating of the few scraps GRRM has shared of the Free Cities.
Editing process
I'm pretty much the opposite of a skeleton writer. 😅 I'll constantly edit myself as I write. There's a certain minimum level of "acceptable" I have to maintain to move onto the next paragraph, with the sole exception being the heavy writing months with my word count minimum where I just wanted to be done for the night. That said, I do on occasion make use of [finish this scene] or [name this later] or [figure out how this works] injections.
And since I reread the current chapter when getting into the writing zone, that usually means doing light editing as I go if an easy fix to something I wasn't happy with occurs to me.
Sometimes, a particular stretch of scenes or chapters doesn't "feel" right, and I have to rewrite, remove, or add entire scenes. That's usually done at the start of a writing session and sometimes takes up the entire time.
The day before posting is the "final edits" day. It's where I fill in any brackets I left behind, and edit the most stubborn bits I wasn't happy with, until everything is close to 100% satisfaction. I definitely do the most editing of a chapter in this span, and often this adds 500ish words to a given chapter. I've had chapters where I was already pretty much completely happy (ch13 comes to mind) and I just had to do a basic grammar/flow check. Those are nice, they take no more than an hour. Others, I'm burning the midnight oil to fill in the blanks and figure out how the heck to fix a particular sentence or phrase of dialogue that's been vexing me.

"I need some air. The stupidity in here is making me feel faint."
Kim Pine RP and general Scott Pilgrim fandom blog; Asks always open (unless they get flooded, I suppose)
["Current" Event: GAME OVER! RESTART...?]
(Currently answering asks outside of the event and at a staggered rate; apologies for delays.)
Blog should be running on central time, I think, but I sleep at weird hours anyway.
Generally asking that you just be decent people, or make your asks exaggerated/obviously part of the bit you're building if you're going a certain direction. If I catch even a whiff of genuine bigotry, though, you're out pal.
NSFW asks tentatively allowed (until someone is a freak about it) [I need to clarify now that I mean this within the rp context: I will field nonRP NSFW asks without complaint. Stop. Bothering. The. Minors.]
Generally fine running separate continuities for Kim, you just need to specify, otherwise I'm working with my current amalgam of canon Kim stuff + blog canon (like anon shenanigans and stuff) (Bonus points if you can name our tag for me)
Theoretical fine with ship interactions, especially gay ones, but DO NOT ENGAGE ME IN THIS MANNER IF YOU ARE A MINOR! Thank you!
Characters I'm not interested in fielding ship content for: Lucas Lee, Hollie Hawkes*, Jason Kim*, basically any evil ex (aside from Roxie,,, maybe Patel,,,) Julie (...?)
Probably more but I don't expect it to be an issue, really- I don't think I've seen blogs for many of these or other characters
*nothing beyond acknowledging canon for Jason, theoretical cool with Hollie actually, it'd just need to be in a specific font, like some of the ones I am fine with but haven't specified- notably, with an understanding that as I write Kim, she could have feelings for Hollie, but after Jason has no interest in pursuing that (so for SPTO or pre-Jason stuff, specify and I'll consider!)

OOC
Hi, welcome to the blog! When addressing me, just call me Pine; if you want to call me Pine in a RP ask, just note that somehow so I understand. I am 24, so please keep this in mind when interacting! My ooc tags are ooc, txt, and art (which I post my art under, obviously, so it may feature RP stuff.) OOC is sort of the catch-all?
I have an AO3 where you can see what fics I'm working on/have written.
Here's various versions of the media and how Hinged I am about them (answer: not very)
Movie: Least favorite Scott/iteration in general; fuck does it have some good lines though. Damnit. (I really do like a lot of aspects of it, but it IS my least favorite.)
Comics: 2 rereads down, favorite version; currently collecting panels for those with requests or questions relative to them (Starting 6 soon)
Show: Watched twice in full, halfway through a third run! (And set to collect Kim screencaps from episode 3!) Contender for favorite version, but has a lot of flaws, I will admit. (Also, begging for a "They Dated" extended cut from someone, please- I'd draw something for you maybe--)
Game: Very fun actually! Didn't know I could be good at this type of game; I have notes on most of the item stats for anyone that needs them- gonna start labeling every instance of the named NPCs eventually

⋆⁺₊⋆ Rules From .☽˚ the Stars ⋆⁺₊⋆
𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑭𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 . . .
Minors/ageless blogs should NOT interact with 18+ posts. I'm very much aware that I'm not your mother; however, respect the principle: if you're not of age for it, then don't fucking do it. If you interact with my stuff, it's 100% on you, and I can't be held accountable for the things you read when I continuously warn my readers before continuing on.
Characters aged 18+ are the ONLY candidates for smut material. Do not ask me to write anything sexual for minors/characters that are canonically under that bracket. Timeskip ages will be checked if they're legal.
Unless specified, the reader I write smut for in my fics is always fem/afab unless stated otherwise, in which case they would be gender-neutral (or male! if specified). Prounouns are always they/them unless specified on contents.
My reader is blank-coded, meaning skin, complexion, hair, and physique are NEVER mentioned unless specified in my warning/contents because I want to leave more room for the imagination. The only thing that's implied is that they are shorter unless mentioned otherwise.
Reblogs and comments are always and forever appreciated. I thank you from the bottom of my heart when you rb + love reading your thoughts as they make my craft much more satisfying.
All of the things I have written on this blog are mine and are meant to stay on this site; if I wanted to post somewhere else, I would've already. In other words, do not repost, copy, translate, or use my works OUTSIDE of Tumblr (esp. w/ no credit).
To add to this, don't ever plagiarize any of my works. Would you like it if I copied you're whole fucking flow, word-for-word, bar-for-bar? Exactly, so be courteous.
Everything in this blog is organized, so use my tag directory if you need help finding stuff.
If you are racist, homophobic, sexist, a TERF, like to bring drama/discourse, or just generally a dick, please don't bring that here. My blog is a safe space for all, and I would be bummed having to block ppl that get in the way of that.
My blog is most definitely not spoiler-free; I will try to keep certain things censored; however, like I said, I can't be held accountable for what you see when I warn you.
Wanna be mutuals? Just ask! I won't bite, promise!
𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝑴𝒚 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒔 𝑮𝒐 . . .
In terms of requests/asks, I go by what interests me rather than who comes first. It's not that I won't like your idea; I just don't want to spend my time writing something that 1) I don't know how to write or 2) doesn't quite interest me at the moment.
Please summarize your ideas in a few sentences. I get wanting to see the big picture; however, I'm just one person and have ideas of my own. If you ask me something that is as big as my phone screen, chances are that I won't write it.
Once again, I'm only one person, so don't be surprised if I don't get to your asks/ideas with superhuman speed. I have a life of my own outside of writing (shocker), so be easy with me if I don't get to a certain ask right that second.
Read all the rules + what I won't write before you decide to go into my inbox and ask me to indulge in your horny fantasies.
𝑨𝒔 𝑭𝒂𝒓 𝒂𝒔 𝑭𝒊𝒄𝒔 𝑮𝒐 . . .
As of now, this is a writing blog centered on Jujutsu Kaisen. I may sometimes expand to other fandoms, but my central fixation is JJK.
I write for both men and women characters, and smut material for said characters 18+ years of age (however, if you ask me to write for Mahito, I will break something and have you pay for it).
I tend to have my works in the small font option; it's just my style of preference (may or may not change upon consideration).
Please don't request the same thing over and over for the same character(s).
𝐈 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞: r*p3/noncon - dubcon - real people (actors, idols, serial killers, etc.) - loli/shotacon/pedo - kidnapping - [pseudo]incest - scat/piss kink/watersports - abuse (physical and mental) - feet kink - aging up minor characters - gangbangs - yandere + tsundere - baby-trapping - noncon somno - vore - period sex (some ppl aren't comfortable) - pet play. * may subject to change + stuff will be added if i find it uncomfortable.
That concludes the rulebook; if you read it all, you're a real one!! And now, you are ready for the masterlist .ᐟ :33

THE MUN.
✦┊ for starters, thank you kindly for stopping by! you may know me in the past as mishka, or cryptid, but lately i go by grass. i am 32 years old and typically refer to myself as he/they pronouns. ✧┊ i have been roleplaying off and on for well over 14 years. i give up trying to keep track of how long with each year that passes. i also do a lot of world building and drawing as well and both will most certainly play a big part on my blogs. ✧┊ i am an extremely slow roleplayer. it has taken me over a month to reply to some threads/asks. it has nothing to do with anyone. it’s just how i write. i am sorry if this is annoying to people, but roleplaying is my HOBBY. i let my muse/s take the reins more often than not and if they are not feeling it then i’m not going to force them, nor will i force myself. ✦┊ if it’s been over a week since i replied to something and you want to know if i saw it and/or curious if i am still interested in doing anything with it, then by all means ask!! i lose track of things, lose it in my notifications, don’t see it at all, or i forget to draft it. ✧┊ i have decided to become more of a minimalist roleplayer. i will probably not use icons anymore and will hardly format my posts. the most that will happen is small font and an on-post tag to my partner. that’s really it. ✦┊ i read everyone’s rules when i decide to follow them. that doesn’t mean i will remember every detail because let’s face it, there are many people that come and go with many different rules and sometimes shit gets mixed up. it happens! if i accidentally break a rule, or cross a line do let me know! i’ll do my best not to do it again. i’m also not big on passwords, so if i follow and don’t like. send in your password, then please don’t take it the wrong way! i’m just nervous and makes me feel weird? idk lmfao
INTERACTING // CONTENT.
✧┊ this is a multi-ship/multi-fandom/multi-verse roleplay blog for various fandoms && muses. this is my only blog now because i’m tired™ of dealing with multiple blogs, so now all of my trash is in one place :D ✦┊ i am very much an adult™ that enjoys writing a lot of adult themes. there are also many fandoms present with said adult themes. there will no doubt be triggers here. whenever they do, {{whether it be dubcon/noncon, bestiality, gore, torture, etc}} they will be tagged with the following; ‘tw: (name of content)’ you are more than welcome to pop into my ims/asks and let me know if you need something tagged that already isn’t tagged! ✧┊ majority of the headcanons and writing found on this blog belongs to me. i have spent many years developng these characters by myself and with various partners along the way. while i don’t mind you using some things, i would kindly ask that you do not steal, nor take credit for these things. this extends to any graphics/edits/art i end up making at any given time unless you have explicit permission from myself to use them. ✧┊ while i may be mutuals only, that’s kind of a lose term with me. i don’t mind writing with you if we have not followed eachother! this also applies to interacting ooc with one another. just do it!! ✦┊ i may prefer writing multi-para threads, but i am totally fine with writing smaller things! this goes for sentences, single para, and everything in between. third person is where it’s at, though i do not mind what style you write in. i’m also totally open to art based roleplays! all ya gotta do is ask. ✧┊ i will do aus, though some crossovers might be turned down if i am a.) not to confident in my abilities to work with that crossover, or b.) not part or do not know enough of a certain fandom. that goes for any muses you’d like to request of me. i’m comfy enough to try writing a muse that isn’t present on my blog/s. ✦┊ i would prefer to keep ims strictly for ooc and plotting purposes, but if you’d like to rp somewhere else then i am open to writing on discord! all ya gotta do is ask and we can work something out. i’m also completely ok with any sort of asks! like even if you just wanna chat with me ooc and shit then please come talk with me! i am always down for some chill time to get to know my rp partners any time!
last, but not least do have fun!! this is a roleplay/ask blog. it’s meant to be a fun experience. it is a hobby and i am going to treat it as such.

hey i saw you talking about the group ‘isola radiale’ in the tags and i was thinking about joining it because i recently made a blog for a dead fandom that i am having trouble getting off the ground. is there any specific reasoning behind not joining a/that rp group? ( i have only ever been indie ) also, sorry for the random ask and for anonymous, i am shy;;
wow, i posted that a while ago! hello, anon!
i was in their precursor group, citta, and then in isola radiale itself for a time, and i did not enjoy it as much as i could've. namely because the folks at isola treat the rp like a full-time job.
all your benefits are locked behind activity after a certain point, with the highest rank taking a year of being there or MORE to access w its requirements. the activity checks were also pretty tough, but i had unmedicated adhd and was in college at the time of my attendance so i may be biased. you could go on hiatus for a week and iirc extend that for another only if you appealed for it, but generally them giving you the boot for having a life outside of goofy tumblr rp is. hm.
another issue i had which is of no fault of the admins was how cliquey it was, and how it fell into some trappings of tumblr rp stereotypes. you'd get people who would refuse to rp with you unless you were playing someone from their setting, or if you used certain fonts, posted icons in your replies, etc. it was pretentious and rude! you tended to have an even worse time if you were playing a purely original character, it was harder for me to get interactions with people (required for ranking up....) versus when i was playing a canon, yet minor character. i have no clue who you're playing anon, but you may be struggling because your character isn't recognized by many and you're new. starting out is the hardest...
overall, 6.2/10 experience, i had fun there but i probably would not go back. it gave me a hatred for strict activity enforcement. rp is a hobby, not something i should clock in for or risk losing my job!

Idk if this was a serious request or just venting but just in case I have a couple things to say I hope that's alright
-unless you're writing for a giveaway or event where you're shooting for a certain word count, don't worry about length. Sometimes a fic is just the length it needs to be and some writers are more naturally suited to shorter work! For example in my opinion all of my best fics are short because I use them to really dig into one scene and then I don't force myself to drag it on once that scene is finished. But Some peoples best stuff is >50k. Long does not automatically equal Good and short does not automatically equal Shallow.
-but if writing long fics is something you genuinely WANT to pursue, the good news is that In my experience, your fics just... Naturally start to get longer as you get more comfortable with writing? So if you're new to fic writing and you can only write short stuff now, that's fine, you may find that you have more to say as you get more practice writing.
-if your main issue is the actual Writing and not the Ideating, which is how it sounds from your post but I may be wrong, youre not gonna like this but the only thing you can do is just Start
Some ways to help you start!
-change your font/page color on your word processor. A lot of people are intimidated by their draft, and you may not realize it, but that is partially because it is Literally in Black and White! When I write a first draft, I change the font to comic sans in a color of my choice, anything but black. Then I change the page color to a very pale version of my font color. It sounds silly, but this can be HUGE for my writer's block because it tells my brain that I don't have to take what I'm writing Seriously yet. This also helps with the editing process because switching it back to black and white with your usual preferred font helps you look at it with fresh eyes
-set a timer. I like to do 15 minutes or 20 minutes, for my daily warmup I do 30. If you're like me and it's hard to start as soon as you set the timer: set a 5 minute timer for yourself to scroll on Tumblr or whatever, and when the 5 minutes one goes off, THEN you start the actual writing timer.
-create a sensory ritual. Light the same candle or chew the same kind of gum every time you sit down to write and don't use it for anything else. Find one of those one hour YouTube lofi mixes and only play it when youre writing (I only listen to the album 'Brasillisn Skies' when I have writers block, because I used to use it as a writing album when I was a ghostwriter and now I'm superstitious about it).
-Dont look back at your draft until it's done. Seriously, this is a HUGE momentum killer. Any editing you're going to do, you're gonna do when the draft is done. Dont let yourself get bogged down in tweaking things as you go. Again, this is something I struggle with, so my simple solution is that I zoom in REALLY FAR on my page or make the text really big so I can only see like a paragraph at a time.
-Do you have a writing friend? A discord server for your fandom of choice? Mutuals? There is nothing on this earth that will motivate you more than sharing a snippet of your WIP with someone who loves the Characters as much as you do and them getting hype about your story. You'll be writing like crazy just so you can show them something else. It's a drug.
Okay I just typed a lot so sorry if this was irritating or unhelpful ha. Couple of bonus tips because Ive been around the block a little!
-stretch your wrists and hands! Especially if you write on a phone but really no matter how you do it. Your future self will thank you it only takes like a minute there are lists of stretches online.
-check in with yourself every hour or so and see if you need to drink/eat/sleep/stretch/go to the bathroom. I'm bad about forgetting I have a body when I write lol.
-get into the habit of reading your writing aloud! Again, this is where having fandom friends comes in handy. I truly believe there is no better trick for improving both your writing and your confidence fast! You'll notice things you want to improve about your work much easier, but also things that you like/are proud of!
Okay sorry I'm done now for real I just got excited ☺️ good luck with your fics!!!
Hi hello does anyone have tips for writing fanfic because I'm at a loss how people get out tens of thousand of words in a week and how you guys make your fics so long in the first place? Like I get through all my plot in the length of one of y'alls chapters
#me#my fics#again SOOOO sorry if you werent actually looking for advice and just wanted to voice your frustrations#but if not i hope some of this is helpful

tumblr etiquette 101
a list that is nowhere near exhaustive, from yours truly.
First off, welcome! Whether you’re a twitter veteran looking for anything but whatever twitter is, or a new user just done signing up, glad to see you in our ranks beloveds! Welcome home. Refer to this quick tour to make sure your fandom experience (or tumblr experience in general) is a positive one!
Disclaimer: I know it’s long, but please try to read or skim through til the end if you’re new here! This is by no means meant to be a rule book (for the most part lol), only a guide to help you get settled easier!
1) Your blog
This is where people will see and interact with you, so put some effort into it!
Try to choose a name (url) that’s simple. You can see it as your brand, it’s how people will perceive you and remember you. If you’d like to interact with other users here (and not use the site just for the content) it’s better to have something short and sweet, preferably without spaces. (Of course, these are only suggestions.) Rest assured, you can change it literally any time you want.
Have a theme. Utilize the tool that lets you edit your blog’s color or the font of your bio! You can make it match your profile picture, or your blog if it has a theme of its own. Make it feel homey :]
Fill in your bio. People will be checking out your profile probably more often than you think. Don’t leave it empty! Put in any information you’re comfortable with sharing and isn’t too personal (like your age if you’re a minor, or other TMI that can be found on other people’s carrds). It’s always better to add a name/nickname people can use to refer to you by, but feel free to use your blog description to shitpost still.
You can have an intro post. More often than not, you’ll see a blog have a pinned post, a post permanently appearing at the top of a blog until you pin another post or unpin it. You can make one of those, if you’d like to introduce yourself in more length, link any other socials or a carrd, and show others visiting your blog how you tag things so it’ll be easy for them to navigate. Not an obligation.
Keep your anonymity and your safety. It should go without saying, but there’s no harm in repeating it just in case. Your comfort, privacy and safety has the utmost importance. Don’t share any information you don’t want to. Don’t share your age if you’re a minor, or any other incredibly personal info. I’d encourage you to go by a nickname that’s not your real name, (blog name, your brand, remember?) since there’s safety in anonymity, and that’s lowkey one of the big deals of tumblr, but that’s up to you still.
Choose what you want to be visible. Your liked posts and who you follow are all things you can set to keep to yourself and hide from the publics eye, how handy! You should go through all the setting while you’re at it, set it to your comfort.
Side blogs are a thing. You can have multiple blogs that you can use for different things (see: different fandoms, art blog, etc) to keep them organized or away from your followers. Just remember that the replies and off-anon asks you send will be from your main blog, as well as where you follow other blogs from.
2) Interacting with others
You’ve set up your account, now comes the fun part!
Follow to your heart’s desire. If you care about others seeing who you follow, fear not! In tumblr, usually only two types of blogs keep their following visible to others: newbies, and big blogs using it to point people on other good blogs’ direction. Just turn it off, and go ham following people.
Customize your dashboard. Gonna mention just two things here: this is another reason why it’s really important that you follow blogs without sparing, your dash will collect dust otherwise; and you should turn off “best stuff first” in your dashboard settings, to have a better community here and all.
Follow tags. You can set it in your settings that posts with your followed tags appear on your dashboard.
You can check the og post for edits and context. When you see a reblogged post you don’t understand the context of (or don’t recognize the character in case of fanarts), click on the profile so it will take you to the original post. From there you can check the original poster’s tags to get the context, or see if there have been any edits made to the post, since when you edit a post it doesn’t update any past reblogs.
Send people asks... This is how you make mutuals, people! Do it off-anon if you’d like them to know your blog, or anon if you’d rather not! (You can still end your messages with a signature to show you’re the same person, -[name] is one example.) Send them nice messages, ask their opinion on something, discuss things, or just straight up shitpost lol. Go wild. The sky’s your limit and it’s definitely more than 280 characters.
...and let them ask you! You can set your preference in the settings, do it on desktop tumblr to access more settings tho! What you can customize on mobile is limited (like letting people ask you things anonymously, that’s only on desktop settings). In my personal opinion, it’s always better to tag their username (or a nickname you give them, if they’re a friend) on that post, since you wouldn’t want your interactions with your friends to get buried in your blog forever.
Comment on posts. If you have something to say but don’t want the post to appear on your blog you can add a comment. The owner of the post will get a notif for it, but for anyone else you need to tag them.
For the love of god, reblog. People will only see your liked posts if you have it visible to public and they specifically go on your blog to look at them. You like something? You reblog. It’s already hard for posts to circulate properly, if you don’t reblog them literally no one will see them. If not for anything do it for the artists. Just hold and drag on mobile to fast rb.
3) Your Posts
Finally here! Don’t be a lurker, post and engage!
Make use of “read more”. If your post is long, add it. That’s what you clicked on earlier to expand this post. On desktop leave an empty line and you’ll see three dots appear, and on mobile type :readmore: on that empty line.
Draft a post to come back to it later. Pretty self explanatory.
Queue your post. Whether it’s your own post or you’re reblogging, make use of the queue feature to a) not spam reblog and fill up the dashboard of people following you and b) keep your blog active while you’re gone. Mess around in the settings, it’s fairly easy to set up.
Schedule your post. Same as queueing, the only difference is you get to choose the exact time your post will go up. Handy if you want to schedule a post for certain dates like april fools, or 5 years in the future for some reason.
Format your texts. You can do all kinds of fancy stuff here (that’s a link, try pressing on it). Twitter doesn’t have this, make use of it. Changes depending on whether you’re on mobile or desktop. (Desktop has less features.)
Check your stats. If you’re trying to understand the algorithm better or want to look at some pretty graphs you can get your data on that on desktop tumblr.
@ people in comments. You’ll get all the notifs when people comment on your posts but they won’t see your reply unless you tag them in your message.
4) Tags, and tagging a post
This is where my earlier statement “this isn’t a rule book” stops being applicable. It’s not a war crime to go against these, I won’t come chasing you (don’t take my word for this) but you’ll work up a bad rep. Just saying lol.
Do NOT crosstag posts. It’s really tempting to add unrelated tags to increase your posts’ interaction, I know, but that’s not what tumblr is about. Don’t be a dick and make other communities’ experience worse for them.
Always tag your posts with “crit/critical/discourse/etc” if it calls for it. There’s no exceptions to it. This is the reason you see people migrating to tumblr. Let people enjoy things.
Don’t main tag a critical/negative post. If your crit post is about “Thing”, you add the “Thing critical” tag, but not the “Thing” tag. People block crit tags if they don’t want to see it, don’t shove it in their faces by main tagging it.
If you don’t want to see something, just block it. Another reason why people are able to survive on tumblr. You don’t start discourse, you don’t make call-outs, you block. You can find something for every community you can think of if you go looking for it. The worst of the worst probably won’t ever appear on your dash, but if you’re worried or feel the need for it, you know where the block button is.
Feel free to shitpost or ramble. More often than not you’ll see people rb a post with a comment, and their elaboration will be in the tags. The tags are only visible on your profile and the notifications of the owner of the og blog. Just a thing people do.
Reblog artists’ posts with nice comments in the tags! Commenting on a drawing is usually done through the tags (Not an obligation, again, just a thing people do. Feel free to add your comment on the rb itself if you’d want other people to see it tho!) and leave nice messages for the artists! It’s a win-win for everyone involved.
If you have more than a single follower, always use the common tw warning tags. You don’t need to tw everything, but tw’ing some common things is the bare minimum human decency. Keep it safe for others.
Tag a post “long post” if it’s really long. Pretty self explanatory. Don’t make people scroll through all that please lol.
You can use them to organize your blog. This is more of a pro tip, if you’d like to not miss a post in your blog, cause they will start pilin’ up soon enough.
#Liveblogging is pretty fun. If you’d like to talk to people during streams, don’t forget to add the relevant tags still! Again, you won’t show up on people’s dash otherwise.
Whew! That got out of hand. Hopefully I didn’t bore you too much. Check out blogs like @heritageposts and @hellsite-hall-of-fame to honor our past o7. @mcytblr-hall-of-fame too maybe :eyes:. Anyways, don’t forget the most important rule of them all:
Enjoy your stay! You’re meant to have fun on here while also making friends (if that’s your thing). Just be kind and respectful of others, you’ll get the hang of the rest! <3

The has() selector
Okay so—I've been playing around with CSS code for site skins on Ao3 for a while now, and it turns out they let you do some pretty bonkers specific things, including:
1. hiding all fics with a particular tag 1a. (unless it has a particular other tag) 1b. (or all fics with a specific combination of tags) 2. blocking everything except for a certain whitelist of tags 3. hiding crossovers with too many fandoms 4. hiding fics with any ship containing a specific character (romantic only, platonic only, or both) 5. blocking tags specifically for fics with certain ratings, categories, or completeness 6. putting fun highlights on specific tags
Some of which can't be done with Ao3's built-in filtering system, and all of which can be done without any external programs or browser extensions! It's literally just the site skins. I'm planning to post everything I've found so far and link them together on their own page, though that might take me a minute.
This first post going to start with just the has() selector, which is how most of the filtering I've figured out works, and is pulling heavily from Permablocking Specific Tags - Site Skin by Eli0t, which goes into a lot of great detail about the has() selector and how to use it. I want to give a brief description of that stuff here first, because almost everything else I talk about with site skins and filtering is going to use that selector.
First off: for most desktop browsers, plus Chrome and Safari on mobile, as far as I know the latest versions support the has() selector.
(Two exceptions to this are Internet Explorer and Firefox—though Firefox has a way to enable it, you just have to poke around in your settings. Go to "about:config" and put "layout.css.has-selector.enabled" into the search bar. With this set to true, the has() selector should work.)
To test that, I recommend creating a new site skin and copying this code into the CSS tab, through the "Write Custom CSS" button near the top when you're editing your skin:
.blurb:has(a) { background: yellow; }
If the has() selector is working, it should add a yellow background to every fic blurb. (This highlighter code is also a great way to test new filters. Other ways to highlight include "font-weight: bold;" which makes a bunch of the text bold, and "color: blue;" which turns a bunch of it blue.)
To actually use the has() selector to block tags, we just add in the url of that tag. To grab the exact url, you can right-click on a tag on Ao3 and hit "Copy Link". The result of that should look something like this: "https://archiveofourown.org/tags/MyTag/works"
Now, we remove the "https://archiveofourown.org" bit to get this: "/tags/MyTag/works"
And we put it into a has() selector like so:
.blurb:has(a[href$="/tags/MyTag/works"]) { display: none !important; }
The "display: none !important;" will tell your browser to hide anything with a link to the tag you want to block.
Unfortunately, this does not respect canonical tags. If you have a misspelling, like "MyyTag", then the filter won't be able to see it. The most common problem with this is in relationship tags, where order doesn't matter to Ao3 but will matter to the site skin—"Blorbo Baggins/Steve" and "Steve/Blorbo Baggins" are the exact same ship, but to catch both tags you'll have to add a second filter.
One way to catch more tags with just one filter is to use "*=" instead of "$=", like so:
.blurb:has(a[href*="MyTag"]) { display: none !important; }
In this case, the filter will catch any tag with a url that contains the phrase "MyTag", including "MyTag is a very good tag", which the first filter would have missed.
Now, it's arguably better to use the built-in Ao3 filtering system for this, since it understands what a canonical tag is—but if you have tags where you'd want to avoid reading even a summary of a fic containing them, particularly trigger tags, this is a great way to avoid seeing them if one happens to be the most recently updated when you go into the filter. It's also extra effective for Archive Warnings, since those have to be the correctly spelled canonical version—so with a couple of these filters you can remove everything containing those warnings from your Ao3 experience, permanently.
An important thing to keep in mind if you're trying to filter a tag—the name of the tag that you see in Ao3 isn't exactly the same as the url attached to it. One big difference is that slashes "/" turn into "*s*", and the "&" symbol becomes "*a*", which affects almost all relationship tags. Another is that spaces become "%20". Also, if you're in a fandom that uses non-latin characters, or one where many characters have multiple names separated by " | ", those are going to use code representations with % signs and a bunch of letters and numbers. It's usually necessary to copy those, so that you know how the url is representing the tag.
The selectors are also case sensitive—a filter blocking anything containing the phrase "MyTag" will ignore the tag "mytag".
If you have a list of tags you'd like to block, there are two slightly different ways to go about it. For situations where you want to block only fics that have every tag in a list, you'll want to chain the has() selectors together like this:
.blurb:has(a[href*="Tag1"]):has(a[href*="Tag2"]):has(a[href*="Tag3"]) { display: none !important; }
This will hide a fic tagged with all three, but won't touch one that has Tag1 and Tag2, but not Tag3.
On the other hand, you can also put a list of tags into the has() selector like this:
.blurb:has(a[href*="Tag1"], a[href*="Tag2"], a[href*="Tag3"]) { display: none !important; }
This will block a fic tagged with any of the three tags, regardless of whether or not the other two are present. The same thing can be achieved by adding multiple filters, which is how I've been doing it—I actually only found out you can put multiple elements in the has() selector like an hour ago as I'm writing this.
To do that, simply separate them with commas like so:
blurb:has(a[href*="Tag1"]), blurb:has(a[href*="Tag2"]) { display: none !important; }
In theory, you can have as many of these as you want. In practice, I've run into issues with my filters failing if I put too many of them in the same site skin. Fortunately, in the "Advanced" tab, which you can get to by hitting "Show" at the very bottom of the edit window of a site skin, there's a section called "Parent Skins", also at the very bottom. Hit "Add Parent Skin", and you can add a skin as the parent to another skin. This means that the "child" skin will have all the CSS code that any of its parents do.
You can add many parents, so you can have one main skin with a parent skin for each small batch of your filters (around nine or ten usually works for me). And the parent skins can have parent skins of their own as well! So the amount of filters you can have is still functionally unlimited.

I am sorry to hear that you often struggle with your mental health and truly hope things get better for you. The weather here in England is very gloomy, too.
What kind of music do you enjoy? Are you a collector of anything?
Sorry if I'm being too intrusive, just interested :)
(referencing this post)
Hey Nonny!
Ah, sorry this is a couple days late... I’ve SO many asks that are quick-asks and I’m just really stressed in my day job because half the staff is still off. Should be better next week, LOL.
Not intrusive at all, I love sharing my favourite things because it makes me happy.
For music, my fave artists ever are the Pet Shop Boys, but oddly enough, my fave genre is Industrial and EBM, like Funker Vogt, H.I.M., Apoptygma Berzerk, and Pride and Fall (which is a nice mix of both). Ah, basically anything with a beat, but I less likely to skip Industrial and EBM music on my playlist. But I’m pretty easy going; only genre I really don’t like is country. No reason really, just don’t like it, unless it’s more pop-feeling. Though, when I’m writing or relaxing, I love Video Game Soundtracks, “Epic Music” (look it up on YouTube MMM) or Trance music. So yeah, a bit of everything, really. Depends upon my mood. Eighties Synthpop too. Love it.
As for collectibles, Funko Pops, but like only certain ones. So like, just for fandoms I like. I have WAY TOO MANY POPS. Over 200. So far my most valuable one, according to the Funko app, is my Luna Lovegood one I bought only because she’s cute. I have to still “file” the ones I have in storage, so I’m interested in seeing how much my whole collection is worth.
I also Collect the official Square Enix Kingdom Hearts Bring Arts Figures. It’s not a cheap hobby, would NOT RECOMMEND. I have or have on pre-order all of those figures except Cloud. I also collected almost all the PlayArts Kai figures too, which cost even more. DON’T DO THIS. They’re all BEAUTIFUL figures, but good lord, collecting high quality display figures is EXPENSIVE. The most I’ve spent on ONE FIGURE was nearly 200$.
Which by the way is LESS than the Doctor Strange Figure I bought. Again, don’t get into figure collecting. Oof. I save up for MONTHS to buy the preorders that I do, so basically I have no money for anything else that month that Square bills me for my shipment, LOL.
And Dragons. I love dragons, and for awhile I bought anything dragons. I’m better these days restraining myself because I redirected my obsession to Funkos, but yeah.
On the CHEAPER side, I collect fonts. I fucking love fonts. Just... Mm. I’m a designer by trade, and typography makes me SO happy. I love typefaces. Mmm, give me a nice sexy sans serif and I’m a happy camper.
Hee hee. This was fun. Thank you Nonny <3

His Lighthouse || Part 2
Fandom: Servamp Ship: KuroMahi (Fem Mahiru) Characters: Kuro, Mahiru
Summary: After Mahiru’s uncle goes missing, she searches London for him. She meets Kuro and she asks him to help her investigate the disappearance. (KuroMahi, Fem Mahiru)
Part 1 || (Part 2) || Part 3
“This is everything I’ve found in my uncle’s office. He has been recording the suspicious movements of the Noberu family. The last date of his report is the same night he went missing.” Mahiru told Kuro. After they finished eating breakfast, she took him to her uncle’s office. She had decided to trust him and asked him to help find her uncle. “If we follow this pattern, he likely disappeared while investigating this family! They must be connected. I’ve tried to continue his work but no one will speak with me.”
“The Noberu are a powerful family. Even if someone knew about their crimes, they wouldn’t want to speak out against them. It’s best to be cautious when inquiring about the family. Between their wealth and status, they’re dangerous.” Kuro’s words made her think of the man who chased them the previous night. She was certain that she would’ve been killed if Kuro hadn’t rescued her.
She had decided to search for her uncle alone because she didn’t want to endanger her friends. Mahiru glanced towards the photo of her mother and uncle. “My mother was a duchess but I know very little about high society. They seem like a complicated bunch with their fake smiles and secrets. It was naïve of me to investigate the family so openly, wasn’t it?”
“I only met you yesterday but you seem like the straightforward type.” Kuro spoke his thoughts out loud and he noticed the small frown that appeared on Mahiru’s lips. He added, “I don’t think that’s a bad thing. For a while, I worked with your uncle and he had a similar approach to you. People are more willing to speak with him than us.”
“I never imagined they would brush me off the way they did. It made me realize how sheltered I’ve been in my little lighthouse. I mainly speak with my friends and relatives through letters.” Her mother and uncle had raised her in the lighthouse and it held a lot of precious memories for Mahiru. At times, she wished that the lighthouse was closer to the city so she could visit her friends more often. Mahiru had many chances to leave but she decided to stay each time.
She focused on the investigation again and said, “You said you worked with my uncle. Was it for investigations similar to the Noberu family?”
“Not in a formal way. He needed something taken care of and he paid me to look into it.” Kuro’s explanation was vague and she could hear that there was more he didn’t tell her. She reasoned that he had his own reason for why he wanted to keep his work a secret. Her uncle also hid his investigation from their family for the sake of their safety.
“I’m sorry if that was a weird question to ask a man I only met recently. I was hoping that you’ll have experience with investigation and you could tell me the best place to search for clues.” Mahiru said. “You don’t have to tell me about your past work with my uncle unless you’re comfortable.”
“My clients would have my head if I tell you such sensitive information.” Kuro didn’t know how she would react if he told her that he was an assassin. She could lose her trust in him if she learned that the Noberu family had hired him to silence her. He hated being an assassin but it allowed him to provide for his family. He had seven younger siblings and they lived in poverty.
When the Noberu first approached him with the request to target a brunette noblewoman, he had refused. Kuro thought it was wrong to kill someone who was innocent. Yet, it was difficult to refuse a request from a powerful family who would target his siblings in retaliation. If he helped Mahiru, she would pay him and he could keep his siblings safe from the Noberu.
“Your uncle has been gone for a month without contacting you. You said that he would send you a letter once a week while he’s on his past investigations. How can you be certain that he’s still alive?” Kuro sat in a chair across from her and studied her expression. “I don’t want to ask this to be cruel but we should be realistic about this. I’ll help you finish your uncle’s investigation but I can’t promise we’ll find him alive.”
“He’s alive!” She yelled and she stared into his eyes. Her brown eyes were steady and they reflected the determination she felt. “My uncle left me this note. It said his co-workers would come to collect his files if something happens to him. Until they come with the news, I believe he’ll return home. Something is stopping him and I’ll be the one to save him.”
“You know him better than me so I’ll trust your opinion.” He agreed quicker than she expected. Her friend, Licht, would often tell her that it was difficult for her to gain the respect of the men in her field. Kuro was different from the others and Mahiru became curious about what kind of life he had. “You’ve managed to collect a surprising amount of information on Frankenstein Noberu.”
“I went to the library to gather these documents. It’s not as much as I wanted.” Mahiru said nonchalantly. Yet, Kuro thought she was intelligent and studious from the progress she made on her own. “This is all the scientific discoveries that they’ve made in the past three generations. They have been given numerous grants but that money shouldn’t be able to cover the cost of research and development.”
“I’ve never went to school so you’ll have to explain the math to me.” Kuro told her. He broke his gaze with her because most would judge him for being uneducated. His family couldn’t afford to send him to school and he needed to work at an early age to feed his family.
“They must be getting money from somewhere else and embezzling the money from their grants. There’s a chance they’re using cheap materials in their research as well.” Mahiru told him without a hint of condensation in her voice. “My uncle has been tracking their movements but he can’t go inside the house to see the details of their experiments.”
“He has the graveyard circled in his map. If that’s a place he had seen them visit frequently, it’s possible that they’re grave robbing to fund their experiments.” He suggested and she nodded in agreement. “Unfortunately, it’ll be impossible to catch them in the act. I doubt they would commit the crime themselves though. They will hire thieves to do the work for them.”
“The Noberu own a large estate but my uncle went through each building to locate the one they would use for experiments.” Mahiru spread out the map between them and pointed to the notes her uncle made on each building. “This one has a basement and it’s far from the main gate. This is the best place to have a secret lab. We should break in to see if they have keepsakes they stole from the dead.”
“Did your uncle draw a map to a secret passage we could use to sneak inside? Otherwise, we’ll be caught easily and arrested. They’re a powerful family and they can bribe the judge to have us locked away.” Kuro pointed out. The sadness in her eyes answered him even before she shook her head. He took the map and folded it before he placed it in his pocket. “I’ll try to find a way inside.”
“Are you planning to investigate that house on your own? My uncle did that and they likely have him captured somewhere in that building.” She jumped to her feet to stop him from leaving. “Thinking simply, we need to work together to find a safe way inside. I already have a plan.”
Mahiru returned to the desk to take out an invitation from the drawer. “I was speaking with others to find a way to enter the Noberu’s manor. They’re holding a masquerade ball and we can use it to sneak in. I still have a few of my mother’s ballgowns that I can wear to disguise myself. You can accompany me as my guard.”
“You’ve thought this out.” Kuro took the invitation from her and studied the font. He wondered whether she would’ve gone to the ball by herself if they hadn’t met. Then again, he already knew that she was recklessly brave. She had pulled them into the river to escape the gun. “I’ll go with you but I’ll drag you out of that house the moment it becomes dangerous. Your uncle made me promise to protect you.”
“I doubted he expected the situation to be this dangerous when he asked that of you.” She recalled the events of the previous night and hugged herself. “That man with the gun would’ve killed me. Do you think there’s a chance that he could find us after we fell into the river? It has been a day and he hasn’t come for us yet. But…”
“Are you scared?” He asked. She didn’t answer him but he knew anyone would be afraid in her situation. Mahiru lived alone in the lighthouse as well. Kuro didn’t understand why he felt a little protective when he saw her loneliness. “Do you want me to stay here in case he comes? I can protect you.”
His offer surprised her but her face quickly softened. “Thank you, Kuro.”
The couch was comfortable and warm compared to the hay cots Kuro usually used yet he couldn’t sleep. With his past, he had trouble relaxing in an unfamiliar place. He turned on his side and stared at the door. Mahiru had insisted he sleep in her uncle’s room but he thought it was better to stay in the living room. He could hear an intruder enter the lighthouse if he slept on the couch.
Footsteps caught his attention and he instinctively gripped the knife hidden under his pillow. Kuro realized that the sound came from the stairs and he knew that it was likely Mahiru. The scent of roses filled the room and he relaxed slightly. He didn’t want her to lecture him about sleeping on the couch so he closed his eyes and feigned sleep.
Mahiru’s footsteps stopped next to him and he didn’t know what she intended to do. He felt something warm draped over him and he guessed that it was a blanket. Her hand brushed over his cheek and his heart quickened for a few beats. He knew that the light touch was unintentional so he had to question why it had an effect on him. She whispered under her breath: “If you’re going to sleep here, you should cover yourself properly. You’ll catch a cold at this rate.”
She leaned away from him and left the room. Kuro waited until he heard the creak of the steel staircase before he opened his eyes. Before she disappeared up the staircase, he caught a glimpse of her lonely expression. Kuro had never met a woman like Mahiru before. She was brave and genuinely cared for her family. He sat up and patted the warm blanket that she had put over him.
Her footsteps continued far past the living quarters of the lighthouse and he wondered if she intended to go through the files on the Noberu again. He decided to go help her and he rolled off the couch. “You lectured me about sleeping properly but you’re the one who’s staying up late with troublesome work.”
As he climbed the staircase, he glanced out the window to the cliffside next to the lighthouse. Between the bright light of the lighthouse and the waves crashing against the cliff, he didn’t know how someone was able to have a peaceful sleep. He reached the office and he was confused to find the room empty. Kuro didn’t know where else Mahiru would go inside the tall building.
Her sad frown appeared in his mind. There would be a lot on her mind after the stressful events of the past week. As strong as Mahiru was, she was a normal woman. He debated whether he should speak with her or if it would be better to leave her alone. Kuro didn’t know her well and he had never comforted someone outside of his family.
Before he decided what to do, he found himself climbing the stairs. Kuro reached the top of the lighthouse and pushed open the trap door. A warm breeze hit him as he stepped out onto the balcony connected to the lantern room. The heat was likely created by the large lamp spinning slowly. He scanned the balcony for Mahiru and he spotted her sitting on the roof of the little house.
“How did you get up there?” Kuro wondered aloud and his voice drew Mahiru’s attention. She thought that he was sleeping on the couch. She carefully moved to the edge of the roof and looked down at him. The glow of the lamp illuminated his face and highlighted his strong features.
“The light will burn your eyes and turn you blind if you continue to stand there.” Mahiru warned and gave him a reassuring smile. She was bathed in both the light of the moon and the lighthouse and he thought she was surrounded by liquid fire for a moment. She didn’t seem to notice him staring because she casually pointed to a ladder. “You don’t have to worry about me falling and hurting myself. There’s a ladder on the south side of the lantern room.”
“Do you want to be alone?” He whispered the question but it tugged on Mahiru’s heart. Silently, she shook her head. Kuro had called her strong and she was worried that he would change his opinion if he learned that she was scared. He climbed the ladder she pointed to and walked across the flat roof to sit beside her.
He didn’t want to pressure her if she felt uncomfortable speaking with him so he stayed silent. Among the quiet, his beating heart sounded like thunder. They stared at the stars above them and he listened to her soft breathing. While they sat far above the world, the vast sky made him feel small. The view in front of them was stunning but his focus was on Mahiru.
She slowly moved to hug her legs against her chest and curl into a ball. He hadn’t realized how small she was until that moment. Mahiru turned away from the stars to face Kuro. “The previous lightkeepers installed the ladder to remove bird nests from the roof but I like to sit up here to watch the stars. My uncle would teach me about the different constellations. You might call me a silly girl but I also thought he was a superhero for knowing so much.”
“I used to read books to my siblings.” He said and she tilted her head slightly at his words. Kuro could feel her brown eyes on him. “In those stories, the heroes will always come home to their family. Heroes have a troublesome habit of waiting until the last moment to save the day in a big reveal. It makes for an interesting story but their family is left behind to worry. You should lecture your uncle about that when he comes back.”
“I will.” Mahiru nodded with a warm laugh. Her heart felt lighter after he spoke with her and she was glad that he offered to stay with her. She knew he only wanted to protect her but he had done so much more for her. “Will your siblings mind that I’m taking so much of your time?”
“They’re already grown with their own lives. Also, my work often keeps me away from home for long periods of time and they’re used to it. They trust me to return home.” Kuro took off his jacket and placed it around Mahiru’s shoulders. She wasn’t cold but she held the jacket around her. “I’ve stared at the stars all my life but I don’t know much about them. Can you tell me what you know?”
“Well, there’s the North Star. You can see it no matter where you are.” Mahiru told him and pointed to the sky. He squinted into the vast collections of stars and he struggled to see which one she pointed to. Kuro didn’t expect her to move closer to him until her arm brushed against his. She sat close to him so their eye line would be the same and she placed her finger beneath the star. “See it yet?”
“I think so,” He said. Kuro was certain that they were so close that their lips would brush together if he turned to face her. She learned away from him and he didn’t know if he felt disappointed or relieved. Mahiru didn’t seem to notice as she continued to name the constellations in the sky. She wore a smile that would light the night better than the lighthouse they sat on.

Install AO3 Savior.
Then, install AO3 Savior Config.
To edit AO3 Savior Config, go to your userscripts, then hit the edit icon.
Each tag/word/phrase MUST be formatted within single (') or double (") quotes, and separated with commas. If you have a tag that uses apostrophes, use double quotes, or else the script will think your tag ends at the single quote.
AO3 Enhancements Options (Chrome) (Firefox)
This extension has quite a few options but my favorite are:
Estimated Reading Time
Using the reading speed you input, an estimated reading time will show for each fic and/or chapter.
Hide Works with Too Many Fandoms
You can choose to hide fics when they have more than [chosen number between 1 and 10] fandoms.
Decrease Work Width
Text can now go part-way across your screen, instead of end to end.
Track Works
This will keep track of works you've kudosed, bookmarked, and subscribed.
AO3: Kudosed and Seen History
This script also tracks the works that you've kudosed. However, you can also skip fics, which will then hide them from your searches. Fics you've visited - kudosed or not - can also be hidden/condensed.
AO3's Search Filter
The Include & Exclude sections are great, but the Search within results is where it's really at.
You can use this to get pretty specific fics.
Example: I want to find fics where Peter Parker (Spider-Man) is less human and more spider-like. There's a tag for this (Peter Parker Acts Like A Spider), but it's not used for every fic like this.
To find more fics I'm going to go into the Peter Parker tag, then add spidery || "like a spider" into Search within results. The quotes are used for a phrase, and || is used for or. So fics with spidery or the phrase "like a spider" in the summary/tags will be shown.
Or to find fics where only one relationship is tagged.
Go into the relationship tag you want. Put otp:true into Search within results.
Also check out the Hidden search operators cheatsheet for some more tricks.
AO3 Site Skin(s)
You can copy the code for these skins into one skin for your own personal preferences. I recommend also checking out the Skins List for more cool skins not listed.
Using the Skin Wizard, you can also easily change your font, font size, margin width, paragraph width, and theme colors.
Reversi skin by AO3
Dark mode.
ByLine skin by Branch
Breaks warnings, relationships, characters, and freeform tags into separate groups.
Shortening long tag fields skin by Xparrot
Puts all tag fields on the Show Works page over a certain length into a scrollbox.
Freeform Tag Truncation for Blurbs skin by sarken
Turns tags like "This is my very very very very long freeform tag" into "This is my very very very ver..."
Workings Hide kudos skin by AO3
Hides the "[usernames] as well as 30 guests left kudos on this work!" found at the end of fics/chapters.
Workings Hide author summary skin by AO3
Hides the Author Summary found at the beginning of fics/chapters
Workings Hide author notes skin by AO3
Hides Author Notes.
Blurblings Hide warnings skin by AO3
Hides the warning tags. I like to use this since I've already filtered out the warning tags I don't want to see.
Also, if anybody uses AutoHotkeys, you can copy this script to automatically open a new tab to AO3 whenever you type ao3o.

So in regards to that anon bringing up someone having a really similar looking blog to yours it just reminded me of like past general fandom chat of giving credit where it’s due in terms of inspo like skate rats wtc. And that stuff all made sense to me, i was like “yeah, plagiariasm.” But ngl i dont know where the line is with general blog aesthetics?
Because i feel like yours was the first one that i saw look the way it does and then (not in a bad way) a lot, if not most dark blogs/nsfw blogs started looking like yours. Im just talking about like the fancy text, mini header image and no pfp, a lot of blogs have similar pinned posts as well in terms of layouts and the mini text and bolding. But no one ever said anything so i was like 🤷♀️ but then i remember some people getting angry about headers being the same on posts? So idk where the line is at.
I dont produce content but i get nervous about revamping my mobile theme/desktop theme because i dont want to tread on people’s toes. Because from what i can gather the people who’s blogs all look the same all run in the same group so idk if its a case of, if you’re friends it’s cool but if you’re not friends, it isnt cool??
Hi my love!! Thank you so much for this ask, I really really appreciate how respectful and frankly a lil (v. pleasantly) surprised at how in depth it is hahahaha so thank you! <33
this is so long warning in advance I’m so sorry omg
Personally for me, it’s not as much friends being ‘okay’ because they’ve got a free pass to it but more so that between friends there’s always communication involved and a mutual understanding/respect for each others respective themes, if that makes sense?
If a friend of mine’s done something really cool that I hadn’t seen before or I really like something that’s very specific to their theme aesthetic, I’ll always ask if they mind me taking it and maybe throwing my own spin on it. I’ve had friends ask me if I’d mind if they pink-edit manga panels for their headers (even tho they rly didn’t need to because it’s super generic!) so it’s really all about that communication ya know?
If it’s someone I’m not friends with, I don’t know whether it’s a pure coincidence (which, once again— none of my concepts are Unique!) or if they were inspired. Neither of them are bad, it’s just a different dynamic in my opinion.
I’ll use my own blog as example to explain I guess where I personally would draw the line!
Like I keep saying, nothing I do is truly unique. I’m so so honoured and beyond flattered that you said I’m the first blog that you saw looked like this, and tbh I hadn’t seen blogs with a similar aesthetic to mine back then either.
That said, my view is super tunneled and I only see a fraction of the fandom and an even smaller fraction of this site! So chances are someone with a similar blog aesthetic as me is more than likely and entirely a coincidence.
If you seperate it everything on my blog, it’s all generic— pink themes are generic beyond generic. Pink manga edits are generic. Old English is everywhere, and also just a very generic font. Hentai caps used in headers? Also nothing new or noteworthy. But to me, it’s the combination of generic aesthetics that’s unique. Everyone’s mishmash of generic is tailored to them and their brand.
It’s difficult to draw a hard line anywhere, unless of course it’s a carbon copy in which case is obvious. I think! Think about how integral something is to someone’s aesthetic. Is it just a general colour theme that’s the same? Or is it headers being edited specifically one certain way?
Shoot them a message if you’re worried! Most likely than not they’ll be incredibly appreciative and not mind ♡︎♡︎
#urusai! baka#sometimes I /do/ get a lil upset when I see someone with a lot of similarities to my blog#but there’s nothint I can do!#coincidences are just that and even if it’s inspired it’s so generic it’s nothing I really /can/ be upset over#like I don’t rly have the right to it ya know?#I hope this made sense! I lit waffles for like 800 words I’m so sorry#I rly can’t answer things short can I smh sigh#I hope this answers your question tho? maybe cleared a few things up?#again these are jusy my personal opinions#I’m sure there are loads of people out there with diff thoughts#I can understand people being upset at their header style being copied entirely (if thats the case!)#mine arent special so not mine but like a lot of blogs have very particular edits that are super unique to their blog#the way i kinda gauge it is if i look at it and go— oh thats xyz’s blog— solely by the header/or blog layout#and then someone else were to be mistaken for that blog#maybe I’d shoot a dm if it’s that similarn#this is a lil obnoxious but the ~vibe~ of the blog’s also important#if that makes any sense???#aesthetically it can look similar but sometimes a blog’s just got a vastly diff vibe to jt#that distinguishes it#I guess no one can rly police/gatekeep it bcos you Cant draw a hard line anywhere#no one wants to be like addison cain#LMAOOOOOO

Thank you @hometothecanyonmoon for tagging me!!
1) When did you become a Louie?
Embarrassingly late. I’d say around mid-April 2020, since that’s around the time I learned about Larry and joined the 1D fandom. I focused mostly on Louis and Harry and whatever they got up to, so during that I just noticed little quirks and started to pick up on their personalities. Harry is sweet and dorky and I adore him, but I love Louis’ wit and his sarcasm and his compassion, basically his character in general. Afterwards, I learned that Louis has recently released LT1, so I downloaded the entire album to give it a listen and have not stopped listening since. His whole album is a blessing, all of his music is so meaningful and touching; you’ve heard his songs and lyrics, yeah?
2) Why did you become a Louie?
Multiple reasons, the two main ones being his music and his personality. I’m not greatly interested in the type of music that’s mostly being released at present (no offense meant), and Louis’ voice is just incredibly unique, something I really like in artists. Everything that he’s written has been sincere and expressive, like a touch of rawness in them, especially when he sings. There’s just so much emotion behind every word and note, and his voice!! It has the sweetest rasp to it and his voice has gotten stronger and more powerful over the years, yet it can still be soft and light like during the bridge in Defenceless. He is also such a sweetheart, treating everyone kindly and with understanding unless he thinks they’re undeserving of it. The way he socialize with children and animals makes my heart melt, he looks so happy and excited during those interactions with his crinkling eyes and his smile-goodness, he is truly God’s gift.
3) One thing that drew you in specifically?
Easily his charisma and satire. His humor and jokes always stood out to me during interviews, his quips are just hilarious, that sweet boy. He draws attention to himself and leaves an imprint on you, and you get attached to him and his personality and his cheekbones-essentially his entire being. I was also kind of irritated with the amount of lines he and Niall were given compared to the other boys, so I paid more mind to the two of them (along with Harry) at the beginning. I think it’s also because I tend to notice those who aren’t as noticed or not quite under the spotlight-is that they proper description? Anyway, between Louis and Niall I wound up taking more of a liking to Louis with his sass and his cheek and his eyelashes. Man, is he even real? He’s so sweet and genuine, he’s endured so much and has continued to stand strong after each blow; it’s as heartbreaking as it’s inspiring. I just want to wrap him in a blanket and take him far away from all the cruelty present in the world, maybe feed him some tacos and stroke his hair until he falls asleep. He can still joke around and enjoy life while also doing his job and doing it brilliantly, might I add. I feel like he’d be a wonderful best friend to have, empathetic and supportive, someone you’d be able to stir up chaos with but also who’d keep your moral compass pointing in the right direction. Honestly, I’m quite certain that God created him with the thought of sunshine and sunflowers in His head.
4) Favorite song on Walls?
Oo, that’s difficult. I love Always You, its tempo and it’s tune are just really lively and upbeat. I’ve also got a special place in my heart for the lyrics of Fearless (God, that second verse and chorus and first verse - the whole song), Defenceless (“I come running to you like a moth into a flame,”? “I’m too tired to be tough, just wanna be loved by you,”???), Only For the Brave (“It’s a church of burnt romances and I’m too far gone to pray,” “All the lonely shadow dances from the cradle to the grave,” this song is so lyrically poetic and I love every second of it), and Two of Us (the bridge.. God it’s so melancholy yet somewhat hopeful[?]). Kill My Mind also has this great indie rock sound to it, I’d gladly listen to it for hours. I.. am realizing that this absolutely does not answer the question, but I hope you now understand how good Louis’ songs are and how much I love them <333
5) Who would you want Louis to collab with?
Okay, I took a bit of time on this and I think one would be Alessia Cara. I’d really like to hear how they would sound together, considering how unique and distinctive both of their voices are individually, and how the music they produced would mesh with each other. Another would probably be Ed Sheeran, lyrically I think they’d be quite powerful like Louis and Alessia, but I’m not sure how they’d sound as a unit. It’d be interesting to hear though, I’m sure. Last is Harry, and if you’ve heard edits and that duet in the chorus of Truly, Madly, Deeply, you know what I’m talking about and you know how good they sound together.
6) Favorite Hairstyle?
Peaky blinders is one, he looked like a sweet little hedgehog during that time. Cinnamon swirl is also high on the list. He looked like actual royalty (I mean when doesn’t he, but this is god tier princely) and everything was right in the world. He was just- the living embodiment of delicate. His messy quiff and messy fringe back in 2013-2014 were just.. so attractive? Those hairstyles also make me miss seeing his full face :((
7) Back to You, Just Hold On, or Miss You?
(where is the Just Like You option)
I love the lyrics and meaning behind Just Hold On, it’s all really hopeful and motivating. The whole song was really well done, Louis and Steve Aoki did such a good job. Miss You also has a great sound to it, and you can really hear his accent throughout the whole song (fook, luv, anova, need I go on). I also love the bit of violin (I think it’s a violin) they added in the second pre-chorus and final chorus? It adds kind of like a lighter factor to the heavy guitar and drums already present in the song, and some sort of assurance that everything will be okay (I’m bad at describing things I’m sorry akdjsjdj). Back to You, God the notes they hit during that song.. beautiful (“We don’t know how to make it stop,” and “I love it, I hate it and I can’t take it,”). Can I also just say that Louis and Bebe both looked really, really attractive during that music video? Like damn please hold back on the extra chili, it’s already hot in here.
8) Louis in suits or sweaters?
Louis in suits is just.. all his assets (ha) are accentuated and he looks so sharp and beautiful, his shoulders just a bit broader, and his curves more defined. Then when he wears blue suits, his eyes are just that much more blue. Louis in sweaters, on the other hand: sunflowers incarnate, sunshine and kittens, a soft heated blanket with socked feet and a fireplace while snow falls softly outside the window. He looks so, so warm and huggable and sweet with his sweater paws- imagine being his friend and being able to cuddle him? Just snuggle and chat about what he’s got prepared for LT2, maybe watch a horror movie. God truly has His favorites. In conclusion: Louis in sweaters.
9) Favorite tattoo?
I think the compass was really well made, like the shading and the contours make it look almost lifelike. Then it points to HOME, which I think is so sweet and personal, like he already knows what ‘home’ is to him and he’s sure that that’s where he’d want to go back to, every time without a doubt. I also like the “It Is What It Is” tattoo, it’s written elegantly, kind of like a Ballantines font and it’s definitely an eye-catcher, displayed on his chest. The stag one also isn’t bad, its right eye is just a bit more bugged out than the other. It makes it a lil more special though, it’s easily identifiable as Louis’ tattoo because of that and the antlers are sort of majestic.
10) Favorite Louis photo (currently)?
I am going to pretend I read that as ‘photos’ because I am an indecisive little shit :))
(HELLOOOO HE LOOK LIKE THE SWEETEST HEDGEHOG // He is just- in his element, he is living up there)
(He makes the tousled hair look so good what the hell // Does this need elaboration, I mean, his smile literally powers everything on earth, and the crinkles by his eyes, and his sweater, and his lil canines, and-)
(Please God he is. Ethereal. Stunning. Perfect. In both photos, his eyes are just. Bright. And the cinnamon swirl, I- I’ve ascended to a higher plane of existence. He’s just so beautiful. Gorgeous really.)
11) Random extra?
When one is given the opportunity to express their love for Louis Tomlinson’s accent, one must accept.
His accent is like. Familiar, a bit like home (no, I’m not English), and I love that he’s been able to keep it even after years of living abroad. He has one of those accents where you can tell it’s present even when he sings, and when he uses endearments, God, it’s just so charming and sweet. It’s also really strong and distinctive, you can tell who he is by the first syllable or word he says. It’s a part of who he is and I love it so much and I love him so much, Jesus Christ akjskjd
I had fun being able to talk about Louis in this, there’s so much to him and every bit of it is another ray of sunshine <333
I tag @adorelou-28, @makethebestofwhatyouget, @28-oops-hi, and anyone else who wants to do this, no compulsions :))
#thank you Rae!!#i swear its been weeks since ive been tagged to do this and i am so sorry aldjakdjjd#tag games

Hello! Would you have any advice/tip for someone who's starting to write about obey me and would like to take requests?
I do have a few tips that I could spare! Before I give writing tips, here is just a few things you should know before opening request ~
You probably won’t have many request at first
People most likely will not request from you unless they see you have written about something cute, or nice, or just gives them the feels. So I suggest writing something up before taking request!
When you gain popularity in the writing part of the fandom, expect your inbox to explode
When you start to get noticed for your writing, your inbox will get filled pretty quickly. So don’t feel bad if you can’t get to everyone’s ask immediately! Also don’t feel bad if feel the need to close your inbox.
Always take breaks from request
It can be draining to be taking request after request, so remember to take a break once in awhile and write what you want to write. It doesn’t have to be long, just write something you want!
It’s okay to decline a request
Never feel obligated to have to write something! After all, requests are a privilege, not a right.
Okay here is some actual tips ~
Write the characters the way YOU see them
Do not write the characters the way other people write them. If you write the way other people do, your character might end up being dull. I’m not exactly sure how to explain this, but here’s an example! I see Mammon as a cute and bashful tsundere, but someone like @cigarettebreath666 might see him totally different! We write Mammon almost completely different so people end up getting different feels from our writing.
Use reference
So I mean this for the character and your writing! For character, I mean if they have a certain way of speaking or something like that. For your writing, I mean looking up synonyms for a word. Your writing could get boring if you’re using the same word over and over again.
Have a neat/unique format
Your writing will be more readable and interesting to the eye of the viewer, so use colorful words! Use bold letter! Use weird fonts! Just make sure it’s neat and still readable.
Make masterlist and rules
People will definitely want to see your past writings so make a masterlist early on so you won’t have to deal with the struggle! Make rules so people will know what you won’t write and what you will write.
I hope these tips were useful! I wasn’t completely sure what kind of tips you wanted, but if you have any more questions, feel free to clarify it in another ask! Also, when you start writing, tag me! I wanna see it! ^^
